Science & Social Studies Learning Targets
The term "learning targets" is what our class decided to use instead of lesson objective.  Learning targets will be repeated throughout the unit to reinforce concepts and lead to mastery.  Obviously, learning targets cannot all be hit at one time.  Please refer to your student's planner for the daily target.

Earth Science:

Targets:
Construct chart/graph from data/observations (S.IP.05.15)
Participate in collaborative science discussions (S.IA.05.11)

E.ES.M.6:
Seasons - Seasons result from annual variations in the intensity of sunlight and length of day due to the tilt of the axis of the Earth relative to the plane of its yearly orbit around the sun.

Targets:
Demonstrate seasons using a model (E.ES.M.6)

Explain Earth's yearly revolution around Sun (E.ES.M.6)

E.ST.M.2:
Solar System Motion - Gravity is the force that keeps most objects in the solar system in regular and predictable motion.

Targets:
Describe planets' rotation on axis & orbits (E.ST.M.2)

Explain moon phases (E.ST.M.2)
Explain why moon, Sun & stars seem to move across sky (E.ST.M.2)
Compare/contrast lunar & solar eclipses (E.ST.M.2)
Describe the cause & results of ocean tides (E.ST.M.2)
Social Studies:

U1.1 - Describe the life of peoples living in North America before European exploration.

Targets:
Locate American Indian groups on map  (U1.1)

Compare how Indians adapted to/modified environment (U1.1)
Describe life of Indians: family, government & village (U1.1)

U1.2.2 - Use case studies of individual explorers and stories of life in Europe to compare the goals, obstacles, motivations, and consequences for European exploration and colonization of the Americas.

Targets:
Describe goals/motivations of Euro explorers (U1.2.2)

Compare obstacles of exploring & colonization of America (U1.2.2)
Compare consequences of exploring & colonization of America (U1.2.2)

U1.4.1 - Describe the convergence of Europeans, American Indians and Africans in North America after 1492 from the perspective of these three groups.

Targets:
Understand perspective of each of 3 worlds (U1.4.1)
Describe problems that arose for each of 3 worlds (U1.4.1)

U1.4.3 - Explain the impact of European contact on American Indian cultures by comparing the different approaches used by the British and French in their interactions with American Indians.

Targets:
Compare the interactions of British/French with American Indians (U.4.3)

Describe how Indian cultures were impacted (U1.4.3)
